An old-time variety that remains popular for the flavor it adds to winter meals. Roots are purple-shouldered with firm, yellow flesh. Can be stored for several months. Sow seeds sparingly, firm soil gently over the row and keep moist. For a fall crop, plant in late summer or early fall.
